Bat Conservation Project

Bat Conservation Project

Based on our challenge statement, to help the weakening bat population in Northbrook, our group decided to educate the community and raise funds in order to buy and set up new bat houses. We wanted to provide the bat houses to give bats a place to live or hibernate in order to prevent White Nose Syndrome. To start off, we talked to several different places in the community to see if any were interested in holding a bat house on their property. Although the places we contacted had already placed bat houses on their property, they were all open to donations to improve their current bat houses. However, our goal was to create more bat houses around the community so we continued to look for other locations to put up more bat houses. We then contacted Mr. Finan to ask him for the approval of putting up a bat house on our GBN property. When getting his approval, we were thrilled! Our group had been successful throughout our whole project. We raised $130.00 from our bake sale and the selling of our boo-grams. This helped us to contribute in buying a bat house to put up a new bat house. All of our hard work paid off and we all felt as if we truly had made a great impact for our community.
