Glenwood Book Donation

Our group, consisting of Nicole R, Brad M, Maria N, Jessica R, and Jordan S, are wanting to make a difference by donating gently used books to Glenwood Elementary School and help expand their lacking library. At first, we weren't sure how successful we would be in collecting books. We had an original goal of donating 40 books; anything was better than nothing. Sooner than we realized, our donations came flooding in from local public libraries and elementary schools, and we currently are holding 352 books in good condition to donate to Glenwood's library. This was our challenge plan we have organized to help us through the process:

Ways to get books for free/cheap

  • Good Will
  • Salvation Army
  • Donations from GBN Students/ Teachers
  • Donations from local libraries
  • Possible donations from GBN library
  • GBN librarians help

Benefits:

  • Helping students learn to read
  • Keep Glenwood’s library fresh

Success:

  • Raised over 50 books for their library
  • Seeing the students excited about new books

Timeline:

  1. 3/21 ~ Verify what books Glenwood would benefit from(reading levels)
  2. 3/21-4/3~ Choose what schools/libraries would have books to donate
  3. 3/21~ Ask GBN librarians for advice
  4. 4/3~ Call libraries for donations
  5. 4/6-4/30~ Pick up books from locations
  6. 4/15-4/30 ~Look at resale shops for extra books
  7. 4/30 ~ Get final count of books received
  8. May ~ Drive to Glenwood and deliver books
We are right on schedule now, so we hope to collect some more books, and then drive up to Glenwood to deliver them!
