Sporting Equipment Drive!

Being able to play sports and be a part of team means so much more than just being able to play. Sports are where leaders are formed and lifelong friendships are made. It is in sports that many learn the lessons of hard work, team work, and how to deal with adversity. This is why we chose to start a used sporting equipment drive at GBN. We hope that through this drive we can provide the great opportunity of athletics to kids that otherwise wouldn't have it.

Challenge: Our challenge is to help an organization help kids enjoy athletics through means of donation.
Solution:
We will hold a used sporting equipment drive at GBN, with the donations going to the Village of Northbrook during Earth Day on April 20th who will then donate it to a charity.
·      From April 15-19
·      Donation boxes will be at the athletics, science, and cafeteria entrances.
o   This way we encouraged students to bring used equipment because they know that they won’t have to carry it around all day.
·      We ran an announcement promoting the drive the week before and the week of the drive.
We will also be promoting the drive through our personal social media accounts.
·      We also posted signs throughout GBN promoting the cause.
·      Emails were sent to athletic coaches in hopes of spreading the word and possibly receiving their old equipment.
·      Throughout the process we have been in contact with the Village of Northbrook who does an Earth Day collection, which includes sporting equipment. We decided to form a partnership of sorts. All of the equipment that we collect we will then give to them who in turn will donate all their donations to the Salvation Army.

Benefits:
·      We hope that by donating this equipment that we can either help raise money for a good cause or that the equipment directly goes to helping underprivileged kids enjoy sports.
Success:
·      We hope to collect more than 5 boxes full of sporting equipment, which we think will make a considerable difference in the community.
Timeline:
3/21- Find out what paperwork, if any, needs to be filled out in order to use the donation boxes.
            4/9- Create morning announcement.
4/10- Create sign to post in school.
4/11- Email head coaches and parents to spread awareness.
4/12- Distribute signs and create donation boxes.
            4/15-4/19- The drive happens!
4/20- Drop off donations at the Village of Northbrook’s Earth day collection.
