Lisa Madigan wants Supreme Court to Oust Blagojevich

On December 11th, 2008, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was charged with attempting to sell a senate seat. President elect Barack Obama left his senate seat in attempt at the white house, and now Governor Blajogevich was going to give the seat to the highest bidder. Now, Lisa Madigan has called on the Illinois Supreme court to temporarily remove Blagojevich from office. He would still have the power to pick the senator, even though he is formerly charged. Blagojevich has no intentions of resigning, and the Illinois Supreme court can remove him from power if they vote for it.

There are two sides to this issue:

They should vote him out- YES, it is imperative that he is to be stripped of power immediately. We cannot let any more corruption into our government, and if he does appoint a new senator, we can assume that that senator will be as corrupt as Mr. Blagojevich. The Illinois supreme court has the power, and they should temporarily remove him of power.

They should NOT vote him out- YES, he is innocent until proven guilty. According to him, he has nothing to hide. We can not just go ousting government officials until they have been tried in a court of law. He has been charged, not found guilty. We MUST remember this.

After viewing both sides of this heated debate, it is honestly, and finally, up to the Illinois Supreme Court to decide what to do with him. You can either temporarily remove him of power, or you can let him be until he is found guilty. Either decision has reprocussions.

The Illinois Supreme court should without a doubt impeach the governor. He has proved to be uncapable of completing his term in office through his illegal actions. Other than the senate seat corruption case, the governor tried to take out money from the Childern's hospital fund for personal gain. I say kick him out as fast as possible.

With the two sides to the issue, I think that the Illinois supreme court should temporarily remove Rod Blagojevich from power. Although he is innocent until proven guilty, the reputation created for our government has already turned sour. His removal would be the only solution for a road to a pure government. Also, not all of the facts/evidence have been released by the police, so when it is, then we will know for sure what to do with him.

You forgot to mention that most of the Justices of the Illinois Supreme court were elected because of the support that Blagovich gave them. These justices cannot possibly come to a fair and unbiased verdict. You state that it should be left up to them to decide. I think this issue should be left up to the Supreme court. Even though it would create even more bad publicity to the corruption in our state, the issue deserves reconition on a national level. This will allow for a more outlined precedure when another govener misuses is position.

I don't think we have time to worry about the fact that he is "innocent until proven guilty". He's been watched by the CIA and FBI for years and is obviously a very corrupt Governor who we do not need appointing our new senator. I agree that if we were to allow him to pick the next senator, they would be just as corrupt as Blagojevich, and the city of Chicago does not need any more corrupt politicians.
