John McCain and Sarah Palin: Music Thieves

McCain and Palin ran their campaign on the idea of honesty, transparency, and a return to basics. Palin also claimed to “talk straight to the American people.” If that's the case, then why are they using music from artists that want no part in their campaign? They never even tried getting permission from the artists. They have used songs from artists such as Heart, Foo Fighters, Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp and Survivor. They didn't just use these songs on campaign stops but television ads as well. For those that are unaware, an artist with a copyright on a song has to give permission for their song to be used legally.

I think it's funny that a person who tried to become President thinks that the law doesn't apply to him. I wonder what would have happened if he actually made it into office. More importantly, this is a blatant attempt to make McCain popular and sway the people's view through the power of music that a lot of people know and enjoy. The thing is that those artists don't support McCain and don't want to be associated with him in any way. The McCain campaign disregard the artists' wishes in a futile attempt to drag in more voters. Although the artists have demanded, by threatening suit, that the McCain campaign stop using their music, THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE!. The main thing is that more people heard the songs of the artists in McCain's ads than the artists strongly objecting the use of their songs in his ads.

Jackson Browne filed a lawsuit against McCain, for his usage of Browne's music in advertisements without permission.
Browne supports the democratic party, and has the right to refuse McCain's usage of his music in advertisements. McCain still used Browne's music without even asking. I find it very irritating that McCain thinks that he can get away with stealing music just because he is running for President.
