What can be appealed?

I have always wondered what it takes for something to get appealed and I have recently figured it out. For something to get appealed it has to have a reason creditable enough for the next level of court to think that they should look at it. This may be as simple as a wrongful search. They need to file the appeal 60 days after the case's sentence. Appeals are so important that the original trial lawyer will not present the appeal to the judge. You need to higher a criminal court appeals lawyer. In a appeal no new evidence is allowed to be presented in front of the court. The courts hears the case on arguments and previously stated facts. No Witness's are allowed to be called. The majority of cases that are presented for appeal are usually rejected and the courts ruling stands. As in this Olympic case below(even though it is from britain). The picture on the right shows the number of appeal courts in the united states.

The appeals process is in my opinion one of the most important rights the citizens have to protect themselves. I feel a lot more comfortable knowing that if I get charged with a crime the chances of me being wrongfully committed are slim to none.
